Water Treatment Plant Reduces Handling Capacity for One Week 6/12/1999 As part of a $9.5 million upgrade of The Douglas Water Treatment Plant it will be necessary to reduce water flow through the plant for one week while electrical works are carried out. Between December 8 and 15 when the electrical works occur, the plant's current daily handling capacity will have to be decreased from around 152 megalitres to 90 megalitres per day. A Citiwater spokesperson urged consumers to be extremely careful in their use of water and avoid wastage. "The Mt Spec Crystal Creek system will be operative as normal, however, to prevent a water shortage during this period, it is vital that water demand within the community is not excessive," the spokesperson said. The water treatment plant upgrade, being undertaken by NQ Water, is due for completion next month when the plant's handling capacity will be increased by almost one third.
