Chairman welcomes commercialisation 03/05/2001 NQ Water Chairman Ian Hamilton today welcomed the announcement by the Minister for Local Government and Planning Nita Cunningham, that legislation would enable NQ Water to become a commercial entity in its own right. "NQ Water will function in a commercial environment and must be able to resist competition from other potential wholesale suppliers. "The top priorities are to continue to ensure that the best quality water is provided to consumers at the best possible price and that the water system is well capable of handling peak demand now and in the future. "Commercialisation will enable NQ Water to diversify into other related areas of operation and has the potential to reduce the cost of bulk water. "It is anticipated that the composition of the board will remain as now, with representation by the mayors of both Townsville and Thuringowa, one councillor from each city and myself as an independent chairman," Mr Hamilton said.
