NQ Water Supports River Concept

26/11/2001

NQ Water welcomed the release of the Thuringowa River Precinct Strategy, said Chairman Ian Hamilton.

The area of Ross River including the three weirs is part of NQ Waterís area of responsibility, which also Ross River and Paluma Dams and Douglas Water Treatment Plant.

NQ Water was delighted to see the City of Thuringowaís concept for enhancing access to Ross River for both residents and visitors, said Mr Hamilton.

"Ross River is one of the regionís great untapped natural assets," he said. "It is one of our best kept secrets, in terms of flora and fauna.

"Planning for sustainable development of the river and its banks is timely because there is a large emerging market for eco-tourism and for educational activities associated with such pristine locations."

"We look forward to working with Thuringowa City Council in implementing the plan to accommodate the potential of the area."

NQ Water was principally concerned with maintaining water quality said Mr Hamilton.

"The arrangements which are in place with the Local Authorities will continue to ensure that the stringent international standards we require are adhered to," he Hamilton said.

"Thuringowa is to be congratulated on its vision with the River Precinct concept," Mr Hamilton said. "NQ Water will support its progress in every possible way."
