A Quality Return for a Good Turn

24/05/2004

An NQ Water donation made on behalf of Fifth Aviation Regiment (5 AVN REGT) is likely to reduce the losses on a recent Camp Quality fundraising concert to zero.

NQ Water was left in the lurch by a contractor who was unable to deliver a 50,000 litre balancing tank to Horseshoe Bay and 5 AVN REGT pulled out all stops to help earlier this month.

Faced with unacceptable delays involved in recalling tenders, NQ Water appealed for the army’s help through Member for Herbert, Peter Lindsay who successfully argued the case with Defence Minister, Robert Hill.

North Queensland Manager of Camp Quality Lorraine Duve said NQ Water’s $2000 donation will meet the losses incurred as a result of the disappointing response to the concert fundraiser.

"Every cent we raise from here goes towards the $25,000 needed to send our kids to the Sunshine Coast later this year," Ms Duve said.

"This act of generosity gives us great hope in what we are capable of as a community, and the Army is a big part of that."

Chairman Ian Hamilton said NQ Water wanted to show its appreciation.

"I am happy to extend this donation on behalf of the Army," Mr Hamilton said. "The exercise was a display of concern for the community they live in.

"It was a civil lift and not something 5 AVN REGT do everyday. They could not have been more flexible, resourceful and professional."

The Sunshine Coast event is one of around 100 that Camp Quality will hold throughout Australia this year for children living with cancer.

The camps offer recreational experiences like horse riding and abseiling. Each camp is fully funded by Camp Quality, including the cost of the companions and medical teams.
