Water quality enhancement and other budget news

Also in the NQ Water 2005 Financial Year Budget

  1. $500,000 is allocated to the Water Quality Enhancement Project to ensure all water supplied by NQ Water is of equivalent standard. It addresses four areas of delivery. They are:
    1. Construction of the Northern Water Treatment Plant
    2. Upgrades to Douglas Water Treatment Plant filtration facilities, and
    3. Construction of stabilisation facilities both on the Mt Spec system and at Douglas Water Treatment Plant.
  2. A $750,000 upgrade of Mt Spec system to allow flow reversal operations that cater for increased demand north of the Mt Louisa reservoir.
  3. $5m for the Magnetic Island Submarine Pipeline Replacement project.
  4. 4. $1.6m for the Brookhill reservoir. Involving the extension of the Mt Jack Pipeline and construction of a 1ML reservoir.
  5. 5. Outlays to community support include:a
    1. $70,000 to community events, and
    2. $100,000 recreational facility project funding to Townsville and Thuringowa City Council.
 

NQ Water has announced plans to facilitate eco-tourism at Ross River Dam that includes building facilities worth $100,000 at the old quarry.
 
Three local companies have been named to provide nature based recreation activities. Pauline Clayton from Townsville Tropical Tours and Tony O'Connor from Pop Sullivans Sidetrack Tours, recently inspected the site with NQ Water Chairman Ian Hamilton.
