Townsville Mayor, Cr Tony Mooney

Tony Mooney has 21 years experience in local government and serves in senior positions of local authority bodies within Australia and overseas. He has been Mayor of Townsville since 1989.He is President of the Urban Local Government Association of Queensland, which represents 26 of the State’s major cities and towns.

Cr Mooney has headed international initiatives for the City of Townsville through the development of sister city links in Papua New Guinea, Japan, Korea and China.He has been closely involved in strategic planning with the latest focus on the world’s largest zinc refinery being built in Townsville, as well as the Chevron Gas pipeline. Cr Mooney has a degree in Education and Arts with Honours in environmental planning, urban studies and resource development.
